Ian Strachan is an ACMG Rock Guide who loves teaching technical skills and movement to the people he guides.

Ian grew up in the Rocky Mountains and learned to climb at a young age. He spent many years travelling around North America experiencing various types of climbing. Some of his most memorable climbs include Moonlight Buttress (Zion National Park), NW Face of Half Dome (Yosemite Valley), and Pipeline (Squamish).

Ian’s favourite types of climbing include finger cracks and offwidths but he was particularly drawn to the beauty of granite climbing during his trips to Squamish, Southern California, and the Bugaboos, which made the decision easy to call Squamish home in 2015.

Ian enjoys playing in the mountains all seasons. He has spent many years exploring Canadian mountains in the winter through ice-climbing and ski mountaineering. He now spends his winters as a Whistler-Blackcomb Ski-Patroller, teaching AST courses and is an active member of the Canadian Avalanche Association.

Ian also holds his Level 3 OFA First Aid Certificate and is an Industrial Rope Access Technician.
